What the calculator assumes
- Who: a single person with no children, tax resident in one country for the whole year, using 2026 rules (UK: 2026/27). No special deductions, pensions or company structures.
- Cyprus:
- income tax 0% up to โฌ22,000, then 20%, 25%, 30%, and 35% above โฌ72,000;
- Social Insurance 8.8% up to โฌ68,904;
- GeSY 2.65% on all income up to โฌ180,000;
- non-doms pay no Special Defence Contribution on dividends, interest or rent; domiciled residents pay 5% on dividends and 17% on interest;
- rent is taxed after a 20% allowance.
- Employment exemptions: available only to people who were not Cyprus resident for several years before starting work in Cyprus, and each has further conditions:
- 50%: salary over โฌ55,000, for 17 years;
- 25%: up to โฌ25,000 a year, for 7 years;
- 20%: up to โฌ8,550 a year, for 7 years.
- Other countries: rental income is treated as net of costs.
- Spain uses Madrid's regional rates and the 50% reduction for long-term residential lets.
- Italy uses Milan's surcharges and the 21% flat rate on rent.
- The Netherlands taxes savings and investments on a deemed return; we approximate this as 36% of the income entered.
- Russia assumes interest on Russian bank deposits.
- Ukraine assumes dividends from a Ukrainian company.
- Not included: wealth, property and inheritance taxes, church tax, tax treaties and exit taxes. Your current country may still tax you in the year you move.
